a Different Angle
About the Founding Editor
Published by Marturano Enterprises, A Different Angle magazine promises everyday news and articles but but from the angle of everyday folk. We catch up with founding editor Tony Marturano. Why, a different angle? "Well, I'd been publishing a newsletter for quite a few years. It was only two sides of an A4 piece of paper and if featured news from my store as well as my take on topical local, national and international news articles. Others reported the news, I actually commented on the news, as most of us do when we read or watch a news segment. Generally, it will affect us in some way. I decided to write about it. And it proved quite popular, even more so because it was sometimes, albeit mildly, controversial. So, naturally, when the opportunity arose to edit the local parish newsletter, I was interested because it meant writing for a different audience. The only downside to this was the fact that the Parish Newsletter had been going for quite a few decades and was written in a somewhat formulaic way that, it was brought to my attention, may not be compatible with my own. Enter A Different Angle." Marturano Enterprises owns a newsagent, you'd know better than most that there's quite a variety of successful newspapers and magazines out there. Competition is fierce. How will you compete? "We won't. A Different Angle is a free magazine that doesn't focus reporting news, it simply comments on the news. As most of us do when we're with family, friends, colleagues, we talk about what's going on in the world and if it's something closer to home, it's even more interesting hence we we'll try to zone in on local issues and, of course, throw in a few bits of trivia! " You're also a published author, working on new manuscripts, you own a convenience store, and have just invested in a Cambridge company where you actually work full time. How do you do it? I've no idea! Put it this way, I'm quite protective of my free time! How successful do you think A Different Angle will be? I guess as successful as the stories it publishes. Ultimately, it's all about content. If the magazine manages to connect with the people that read it then it will be very successful. That's why we'll be relying heavily on the input and feedback of readers. The 1st issue of a Different Angle Magazine was published in March 2008 and every quarter thereafter. It will be distributed for free to most households, public places in the St Neots area and online from this website. For more information about Tony Marturano, visit www.tonymarturano.com. |
